Head of Litigation & Senior Litigation Attorney
William K. Oates
New York · SDNY · EDNY
William K. Oates is Head of Litigation at Dudani Law and the attorney employers do not want to see across the table. In nearly three decades of labor and employment practice, Bill has dedicated his career to one thing: holding employers accountable for how they treat the people who work for them.
Bill brings a trial lawyer's discipline to every file. The case is built from day one as if a jury will see it, because in his experience the strongest results come from employers who realize you are prepared to go the distance. Clients get an advocate who is direct about where their case stands, protective of the people he represents, and relentless about where the case can go.
Before joining Dudani Law, Mr. Oates practiced at several plaintiff-side labor and employment firms in New York. Earlier, in more than fourteen years as a Special Assistant Corporation Counsel for the New York City Law Department, he appeared before federal tribunals in Section 1983 civil rights actions, conducted mediations, took and defended depositions, and managed complex electronic discovery on some of the city's most closely watched matters, including cases connected to Occupy Wall Street and the Central Park Jogger case. His first decade of practice was spent in commercial litigation, arguing appeals and representing clients in state and federal courts across New York. He has seen how large institutions defend themselves from the inside, and he puts that knowledge to work for employees.
Mr. Oates earned his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Miami and his Juris Doctor from New York Law School. He is admitted to the New York State Bar and the U.S. District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York.
